LASERS
- contrary to public hope, lasers have not replaced the drill. We use a laser for soft tissue procedures which would traditionally require a different technique. The laser in any case is a less invasive and more tissue friendly technique. There are lasers which can cut hard tissue like enamel (teeth), however they are slow and LOUD! Now, why is it that you want to replace the drill?!!
DIGITAL RADIOGRAPHY
- digital x-rays! This is simply the state-of-the-art way to take x-rays. Instead of film, a sensor is placed in the mouth and exposed by the same x-radiation. The difference is that a much lower dose of radiation is needed. Dental x-
rays are ALREADY low is dosage and this makes it even safer. The other difference is that by being digital these images can be saved easier and more importantly they can be manipulated by resolution enhancing software. This is cutting edge technology!
INTRA-ORAL CAMERAS
- do you know why x-rays are used? It is because they show us what we cannot see. The area between teeth isn't accessible to view. Well, even the areas which ARE accessible are not easily viewed. These cameras show us, like x-rays, that which we cannot see. Would you go to a dentist who didn't use x-rays? Well, make sure they use these cameras, too!
IMPLANTS
-
Implant dentistry is no longer considered exotic dentistry. It is the standard of care. Although a bit expensive, it is the best that dentistry has to offer for patients who are missing teeth and want them replaced.
AIR ABRASION
- these are like little sand blasters. They can be used instead of a drill to prepare teeth in about 10% of the cases. They are very messy, yet very well received when used. They just are not able to be used enough of the time. In an office with computers, there is a large expense for repair/maintenance due to the damage caused by all of the dust created.
